How StyleAI Works

Plain-English answers to the questions that should have plain-English answers — how we make money, how we use your data, and how we decide what to show you.

Section 01

How we make money

StyleAI is free to use. We earn revenue through affiliate partnerships: when you click through to a retailer and buy something, the retailer pays us a small commission. The price you pay is exactly the same as buying directly from the retailer — we never mark it up.

We work with the four major affiliate networks — Skimlinks, Rakuten Advertising, CJ Affiliate, and AWIN — plus a handful of direct retailer programmes.

We do not sell sponsored ranking. We do not accept pay-for-placement. A retailer cannot pay us to rank their products higher than they would rank on merit.

Section 02

How your data is used

We log searches, clicks, wishlist saves, and feedback signals so that personalisation has something to work with. This is the minimum set of events we need to learn what you like. You can see and control the personalisation model we build from your events at any time.

We do not sell your data. We do not load third-party re-targeting pixels onto our pages, and we do not share event streams with ad networks.

If you want to opt out of personalisation or delete your profile, the controls live in your account settings. The full policy lives on the privacy page.

Section 03

How personalisation works

Your profile is a single-person affinity model — it lives on our servers and describes what shapes, fabrics, colours, silhouettes, and occasions you tend to engage with. It is built from your onboarding quiz answers plus the events you generate while using the site, and it is used only to re-rank results for you.

If you are curious about what we asked and why, the onboarding quiz walks through the exact fields that feed the model.

Section 04

How we decide what to show

Search on StyleAI is deterministic. A rules-based parser reads your query, a Postgres full-text index finds the candidate set, and a pgvector similarity pass narrows to the most relevant pieces. Nothing in the runtime search path is a language model — results are repeatable.

Ranking blends a small, fixed set of signals: fabric match, occasion match, personal affinity, and freshness. We plan to ship an explain this search toggle so you can see, per result, why it surfaced.

Section 05

Our editorial independence

Edits and stories are curated by our editors. No retailer pays us to appear in an edit, and no brand pays for coverage in a story. When an outside curator or influencer contributes to a piece, their handle is credited at the top of the page.

If an edit was shaped by an external partner — a magazine, a stylist, or a featured account — the Curated by or Featured looks by line on the page is the disclosure. If that line is absent, the piece is ours.

Section 06

Accessibility commitment

We aim for WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance across the site. That means keyboard-navigable journeys, visible focus states, sufficient colour contrast, and motion that respects your prefers-reduced-motion setting.

If you hit something that does not work for your access needs, please tell us — we treat accessibility reports as bugs, not as feature requests.
